Anthropic Unveils Claude Duet AI Agent App
The research preview lets Claude handle email, calendars and app tasks in the background, with invitations rolling out to U.S. subscribers in waves.
On Wednesday, Anthropic launched Claude Duet, a proactive AI agent for Pro and Max subscribers available through a waitlisted research preview that manages tasks across connected apps.
Built around the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet integrates with over 6,000 connectors in the Claude Marketplace and runs on cloud infrastructure to continue working after users close the app.
The AI lab said Claude Duet requires user approval for sensitive actions, using a "new dedicated classifier and safety system prompt" designed to reject requests to share sensitive information like credit card numbers.
This release heightens competition with OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse, which drew more than 14 million installations, as Anthropic targets professionals and small business owners juggling demanding workloads.
"It can have the discernment and judgment around when to be proactive," said Mike Krieger, a co-lead of Anthropic's Labs team, though the company acknowledges the early version may occasionally miscalculate urgency or struggle with personal errands.
