Most Americans face daily scam attempts, with about 30% of U.S. adults reporting they have personally lost money or personal information to fraud, according to a new AP-NORC survey.
Older adults are significantly more likely to receive daily scam attempts, with about 7 in 10 Americans ages 60 and older reporting daily contact compared to about 4 in 10 adults under 30.
When scammed, 55% of victims reported to financial institutions, while only 18% contacted state or local law enforcement and 13% reported to the Federal Trade Commission, Gallup found.
Among victims, 75% did not report because they believed it would not make a difference, while 58% were uncertain where to direct their complaints.
About 8 in 10 Americans believe the government is doing too little to prevent scams, a sentiment shared by majorities of both Republicans and Democrats, Gallup found.
