Eight BJP, Two SP Candidates From UP Elected Unopposed to Rajya Sabha
Only 10 candidates filed for 10 seats, so the Rajya Sabha results were declared without a vote, officials said.
On Friday, all 10 candidates for Uttar Pradesh's Rajya Sabha seats—eight from the Bharatiya Janata Party and two from the Samajwadi Party—were declared elected unopposed by Returning Officer Ajit Verma.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav chose not to field a third candidate, avoiding potential cross-voting risks and ensuring the 10 valid nominees faced no contest for the available Upper House seats.
Dropping all eight outgoing members, the BJP retained its eight seats with a fresh lineup introducing candidates including Dharampal Singh, Shruti Gangwar, and Vidya Sagar Sonkar.
Newly elected BJP MP Shruti Gangwar expressed gratitude for the "trust" placed in her, while SP MP Dhanraj Nathwani pledged to carry forward Akhilesh's "progressive vision" for state development.
Yadav stated the party's focus has shifted to the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly, which will go to polls next year, signaling organizational priorities beyond the Rajya Sabha results.
The terms of 10 Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh will end on November 25. Hence, biennial elections to the upper house will be inevitable. BJP gains in the Rajya Sabha as ten members are elected unopposed Reliance Group Director Dhanraj Nathwani wins
