BJP Strengthens Nandigram Fortress: Hasi Rani Rath Wins Bypoll by Record 1,22,800 Votes
Hasin Rani Rath won 164,427 votes, giving the BJP a 75% share and a 122,753-vote margin over Congress leader Milan Pradhan.
On Friday, the Bharatiya Janata Party retained the Nandigram constituency as Hasin Rani Rath defeated Congress leader Milan Pradhan by 122,753 votes, capturing 75 per cent of the vote share.
The by-election was necessitated after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari vacated the seat to retain his Bhabanipur Assembly constituency, maintaining Nandigram as a stronghold won in 2016, 2021, and 2026.
Rath, mother of the Chief Minister's former aide Chandranath Rath, received 164,427 votes, while Pradhan secured 41,674 votes, surpassing the Chief Minister's previous 82,000-vote victory margin from 2016.
The Trinamool Congress withdrew its candidate to support Pradhan, while Communist Party of India leader Santi Gopal Giri received 5,779 votes and All India Secular Front leader Ali Mohammed Sabse Miraj Khan secured 1,607 votes.
Chief Minister Adhikari credited the victory to voters' "faith in the development agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP," stating at Nabanna that results endorse the party's governance in West Bengal.
