A major research report released by the European Central Bank (ECB) on Tuesday (November 11) pointed out that the main reason for the influx of Chinese goods into the European market at ultra-low prices is the continued weakness in domestic demand and overcapacity in the manufacturing industry, rather than the trade shift caused by US tariffs as widely believed.
Cheap Chinese goods have been flooding into Europe this year, much to the dismay of local producers. Many have blamed the phenomenon on U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods, but the European Central Bank says the problem is actually weak domestic demand.
The European Central Bank (ECB) has stated that the recent increase in Chinese exports to the European Union is due more to the cyclical and structural factors of the 'Asian giant' than to the tariffs of US President Donald Trump, although he has warned that a new clash between the US and China could accentuate the phenomenon.
