UK PM Burnham says election not coming 'any time soon'
He said he wants closer ties with Brussels and a better deal, but would not back a return to EU membership before the next election.
On Monday, Prime Minister Andy Burnham ruled out an early election, stating there would be no vote "any time soon" as his focus remains on governing.
Following a bounce in Labour's poll ratings, speculation regarding an early vote had intensified, prompting Burnham to insist the idea should be dismissed entirely.
Speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain, Burnham criticized the current Brexit outcome, citing weakened immigration control and stating, "I don't think things have worked out as people said they would."
Although hoping to see the UK return to the European Union within his lifetime, Burnham pledged no changes during this Parliament and aims to secure a better deal with Brussels.
Respecting pledges to voters in Makerfield, The Prime Minister committed to Labour manifesto red lines and stated he would not "move ahead of the public" on future EU negotiations.
