PM Pledges Support for All of London's Rough Sleepers This Christmas with £432m Boost
The funding will extend support to 2029 and help housing groups identify at least 2,000 homes and bedspaces for people leaving the streets.
On Monday, Prime Minister Andy Burnham hosts a summit at Downing Street to mobilize support for his pledge to end rough sleeping by Christmas, backed by an additional £432 million government funding commitment.
Chancellor John Healey will confirm the funding in Wednesday's Budget, doubling total investment to £874 million and extending support through the end of the current parliament in 2029.
The National Housing Federation aims to identify at least 2,000 homes and bed spaces, while L'Oreal Group launches a 'Social Salon' initiative with St Mungo's and Virgin Media provides digital connectivity for vulnerable people.
Shadow Housing Secretary Katie Lam criticized the announcement, arguing rough sleeping has hit "record highs under Labour" and claiming Burnham failed to meet homelessness targets as Mayor of Greater Manchester.
Homelessness charities emphasize that prevention remains critical, urging ministers to restore Local Housing Allowance rates to reflect local rents and reduce reliance on temporary accommodation.
