Three Villagers Killed, Houses Torched in Manipur; CM Condemns Attack
Kuki Inpi Manipur said heavily armed cadres attacked Loibol Khullen around 4 a.m., killing three civilians and forcing residents to flee as fires spread.
Suspected militants killed 3 Kuki civilians in an attack on Loibol Khullen village in Manipur's Kangpokpi district on Friday, forcing residents to flee after 7 houses were burnt down.
Violence between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities has persisted in Manipur since May 2023, while tensions erupted in Ukhrul in February involving Tangkhul Naga and Kuki-Zo groups, destabilizing the region.
The victims, aged 34, 30, and 34, were identified as Letkhongam Haokip, Tinmary Haokip, and Jangminlal Haokip. Kuki Inpi Manipur alleged that heavily armed cadres of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim and ZUF carried out the assault.
Condemning the violence, Kuki Inpi Manipur urged the Union government to investigate and ensure accountability. However, the NSCN-IM and ZUF have not yet responded to the allegations.
Since the conflict began in May 2023, at least 260 people have been killed and around 60,000 displaced across Manipur. Sporadic gun attacks continue, marking a persistent pattern of instability.
