Suspected DUI Truck Driver Identified in 10 Freeway Crash in Ontario that Killed 3

A semi-truck driver in his 20s was arrested for possible drug influence after causing a chain-reaction crash that killed three and injured four, authorities said.

  • At about 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 21, three people were killed in an eight-vehicle crash on the westbound 10 Freeway just west of the 15 Freeway, California Highway Patrol Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said.
  • A preliminary CHP investigation found one semi-truck failed to stop as traffic slowed, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving four commercial big rigs.
  • Four people were hospitalized, including two with major injuries, after a Freightliner semi-truck spilled fuel and a vehicle fire triggered a hazardous-materials incident; the CHP issued a SigAlert at 1:30 p.m. closing westbound lanes.
  • Officials identified the arrested driver as Jashanpreet Singh, 21, of Yuba City, booked on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter; I-10 westbound lanes have since reopened, CHP said.
  • As of Tuesday, Oct. 22, officials had not released the names of the three people killed while the I-10 and I-15 connector closures caused heavy traffic and delays.
