- On Sunday, Senator Ron Johnson renewed his call to end the Senate filibuster to fund the Department of Homeland Security following Saturday's shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner.
- The Department of Homeland Security has lacked annual appropriations since February, as Democrats refuse to provide the 60 votes required to override the filibuster without reforms to Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection.
- Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate edge, requiring seven Democrats to cross the aisle. Johnson urged colleagues to resort to the "nuclear option" if Democrats continue blocking funding.
