3 Injured in Stabbing at Walton Middle School
A student suspect was detained minutes after a stabbing injured two students and one adult before school started, with authorities continuing their investigation.
- On Tuesday morning, a student attacked two other students and an adult paraprofessional at Walton Middle School in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, before law enforcement detained the suspect one block from campus at 7:30 a.m.
- The attack occurred before normal school hours with only about 40 students present on campus after the student suspect was dropped off at the entrance around 7:17 a.m., according to Sheriff Adkinson.
- Sheriff Adkinson said, "Immediate life saving aid was being rendered and offered to the two most seriously injured individuals." One student was flown to Pensacola, while the other student and paraprofessional were transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.
- Classes at Walton Middle School were canceled for Tuesday, and authorities established a reunification site at the Walton County Fairgrounds, with the Walton County School District coordinating notifications to guardians.
- Investigators continue to interview the student suspect at the sheriff's office as the case proceeds. Sheriff Adkinson plans to hold a second press conference on Wednesday to release additional information about the investigation.
