Zelenskyy says Ukraine getting ready for new peace talks next week
Trilateral US-Russia-Ukraine talks aim to address energy ceasefire and Donbas control as Ukraine reports over 6,000 Russian drones launched in January, President Zelenskyy said.
- On Feb. 1, Zelenskiy announced that trilateral talks with the US and Russia are set for Feb. 4-5 in Abu Dhabi, saying "The dates for the next trilateral meetings have been set- February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi," according to Zelenskiy.
- Following Jan. 23-24 talks in Abu Dhabi, Zelenskiy said trilateral talks are scheduled for Feb. 4-5 to negotiate a peace deal, including over the Donbas region.
- Zelenskiy reported that over the past week, Russia used more than 980 attack drones, nearly 1,100 guided aerial bombs, and two missiles, while in January Moscow launched over 6,000 drones, around 5,500 aerial bombs, and 158 missiles.
- As a result, Ukraine has paused attacks on Russian oil refineries and other facilities following a short-term energy strike pause brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
- Given deep divisions over territory, officials say the Abu Dhabi talks on Feb. 4-5 form part of a yearlong U.S. administration effort, while Moscow demands Kyiv cede Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts.
