Woman dies on bus near Brazilian restaurant with 26 iPhones glued to her body
GUARAPUAVA, PARANÁ, BRAZIL, AUG 3 – Authorities suspect a smuggling attempt involving 26 iPhones glued to the woman’s body; Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service says 10,000 phones enter the country illegally daily.
On July 29, a 20-year-old Brazilian woman was found with 26 iPhones glued to her body after falling ill on a bus near Guarapuava, Brazil’s Military Police said.
Amid rising black market activity, Brazilian authorities suspect she was smuggling 26 iPhones strapped to her body, discovered during treatment by SAMU medics.
Paramedics attempted to revive her for about 45 minutes, and Brazil’s Federal Revenue Service seized the 26 cell phones sent to investigate smuggling.
Following the discovery, Brazil’s Military Police, Civil Police, and Scientific Police have joined the investigation and are awaiting forensic reports to determine the cause of death.
Amid growing black market activity, H2FOZ reports seizures of smuggled iPhones in Brazil have increased nearly 25 per cent this year, highlighting trafficking concerns.
Authorities are investigating the identity of a woman in her 20s who died with 26 iPhones attached to her body while traveling in Brazil. According to the Daily Mail on the 31st of last month (local time), she was found dead near a restaurant in Guarapuava, a city in the central state of Paraná, Brazil.
