ABU DHABI REGION, ABU DHABI, JUL 14 – Wizz Air cites geopolitical instability, regional airspace closures, and engine reliability issues in harsh climates as reasons for ending Abu Dhabi operations and refocusing on Europe.
- Wizz Air announced it will cease all flights originating from its Abu Dhabi base starting September 1, 2025.
- The airline attributed its decision to a combination of disruptions in its supply network, regional political unrest, restricted access to markets, and operational difficulties in the Middle East.
- Wizz Air has operated in Abu Dhabi for six years but faced difficulties including engine inefficiency in the region's climate and repeated airspace closures.
- Last fiscal year, Wizz Air's net profits dropped 41.5% from 365.9 million euros to 213.9 million euros despite a 3.8% revenue increase to 5.3 billion euros, and CEO Jzsef Vradi said this was a difficult but right decision.
