Lithuanian authorities are examining the possibility of introducing a new tax on Orlen Lietuva, the country's largest refinery. This is due to rising gasoline and diesel prices on global markets, fueled by the conflict in the Middle East. The government is also taking other measures to mitigate the impact of rising prices on residents.

After clarifying the pricing practices of Orlen Lietuvos, the only oil refining and import company in the Baltic States, Lithuania would consider taxing the company additionally - on a similar principle to how banks were previously taxed with a temporary solidarity contribution, says Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitiekūnas.
