Among the many far-fetched justifications for president Donald Trump’s tariff tsunami is the idea that it will encourage companies to up sticks and move production to America to avoid the tax. Fair enough if you’re manufacturing cars, ships or washing machines — but ludicrous if you’re a producer of raw materials such cocoa, coffee, palm oil or even bananas.
