India Rest Bumrah and Jadeja for One-Off Afghanistan Test
India rested Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja while handing maiden Test calls to Gurnoor Brar, Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey.
On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced a 14-member squad for the one-off Test against Afghanistan in New Chandigarh, resting pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Workload management prompted the decision to rest Bumrah and Jadeja, as the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel looks toward the 2027 World Cup and grooming younger talent for future cycles.
Spinners Manav Suthar and Harsh Dubey, alongside fast bowler Gurnoor Brar, received maiden Test call-ups, reflecting India's focus on developing like-for-like replacements for the current core.
KL Rahul replaced Rishabh Pant as vice-captain in the Test side led by Shubman Gill, with Agarkar noting, "KL provides us the necessary experience that you need just in case."
Following the one-off Test, India included veteran Virat Kohli and former captain Rohit Sharma in the one-day squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan scheduled for June 14, 17 and 20.
