SAN JUAN COUNTY, COLORADO, JUL 11 – Elaine Stypula, a 60-year-old ultrarunner with over 100 races completed, died early in the race near Gold Lake at 12,300 feet elevation, officials said.

- Starting at 6 a.m. in Silverton, 146 runners take on the challenging Hardrock 100 ultramarathon, which covers 102.5 miles of rugged terrain and includes a total elevation change of 66,394 feet.
- Stypula was an experienced ultrarunner with over 40 one hundred-mile finishes since 2008, and her last GPS tracking showed her at 12,150 feet at 8:50 a.m., moving slowly on a steep trail.
