House Republicans passed a stopgap to fund DHS fully through May 22 after rejecting the Senate's bill that excluded ICE funding, prolonging the longest DHS shutdown.
- On Friday, the House passed a 60-day continuing resolution to fund the Department of Homeland Security through May 22, with support from three Democrats. The measure sidesteps the Senate's bipartisan proposal.
- House Republicans rejected the Senate's bipartisan funding package late last week, citing exclusion of funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection . The shutdown has now reached 45 days, the longest in history.
- Following President Donald Trump's executive order to pay Transportation Security Administration employees, Border Czar Tom Homan said payments are set to begin on Monday. "We'll be there as long as they need us," Homan said of ICE agents assisting at airports.
- Neither chamber plans to return to Washington until the week of April 13, ensuring the DHS shutdown will persist. Without agreement between the House and Senate on unified legislation, the agency remains unfunded.
- Senate Majority Leader John Thune is working with Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to determine if agreement on DHS funding is possible. A Schumer spokesperson said Democrats "made clear that Democrats would not accept anything less than what was passed unanimously by the Senate.
