‘We are truly sorry’: Premier’s husband caught drink-driving on way to supermarket in random breath test
- On Thursday shortly before 9am, Yorick Piper was pulled over in Bendigo, Victoria, for a random breath test and recorded 0.05, receiving an on-the-spot fine and losing his licence for three months from January 16.
- Citing health and medication issues, Allan said the family had celebrated their son's birthday at a local pub and that medication Piper takes may have contributed to the incident.
- Following the bump at the Spring Gully Road and Carpenter Street T-intersection, Bendigo, Piper's family will cover repairs and donated $1,000 to Amber Community.
- Crying as she spoke to media reporters, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan apologised, saying `I was shocked` and `Drink driving is an incredibly serious issue and so is road trauma, we recognise that and I am truly sorry.`
- Allan pointed out that Yorick Piper is a former union official and political adviser and said he was intercepted on his way to buy groceries, underscoring the political sensitivity as she hopes this can be a powerful lesson urging people not to drive drunk.
