- On Jan 18, Rajnath Singh inaugurated a medium calibre ammunition facility at Solar Industries in Nagpur and praised private sector contribution, saying, `When I see a private sector unit working at this level, I don't just see some unit or some facility; rather, I see a new resolve, a new zeal, a new energy, and innovation.`
- Singh warned the nature of war is changing extremely fast, with conflicts now involving energy, trade, tariff, supply chains, technology and information, so preparation must be on a war footing.
- The government wants contribution of private sector in defence manufacturing sector to be at least 50 percent of production, with defence exports rising from Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 25,000 crore and domestic defence production now over Rs 1.50 lakh crore.
- The government opened up the sector by changing policies and simplifying processes, enabling private firms like Solar group to expand production and supply systems including Pinaka missiles and the Nagastra drone used in Operation Sindoor.
- The government intends to make India a global hub of ammunition production, Singh said, adding that India is moving fast to become a major arms exporter and private sector R&D now leads.
