Late on Monday evening, radar detected an identification characteristic of smuggled balloons, and later 12 boxes of cigarettes were found in the Varėna area, believed to have been brought in this way.

"After 7 a.m. on Tuesday, information was received from border guards that a balloon with cigarettes had fallen in the village of Paežerėliai. Police officers went there and found several balloons tied together. Almost 12,000 packs of cigarettes were found. No suspects have been detained," Police Department spokesman Ramūnas Matonis told Elta.
