The venomous snake season has begun, and you can mostly encounter cross-shaped vipers in the Bakony, Zala and Somogy forests, as well as in Zemplén, around Tokaj and on Tiszahát, in Szabolcs-Szatmár County. Another venomous snake species, the Rákos viper, can cross the hiking trails around Fertő and Hanság. You don't need to be afraid of them, but it doesn't hurt to be careful: they only attack if you step on them or poke them!
