Last week, local resident Amy Wamsley completed an eight-hour swim in the San Francisco Bay. This week, she and her Yellow Springs support team — Victoria Walters and Vanessa Gueth — left the Midwest. They’re headed to European shores as Wamsley begins her journey toward becoming only the second Ohio woman since the 1970s to attempt swimming the English Channel. To mark the 150th anniversary of Captain Matthew Webb’s swim across the English Channel, Great Dawley Town Council has partnered with author Sarah Griffiths to create a new children’s book honouring the legendary Dawley-born swimmer.
