France, the absurd trial of the follower of the conspiracy movement of sovereign citizens

A man was sentenced to five years' suspended imprisonment and 500 euros in damages, after refusing to submit to a road check, on 1 April 2024 in Esquelbecq (North). The video of the arrest had accumulated 15 million views.

On 1 April, Pierre L., a "non-citizen" of conviction, was tried in Dunkirk for refusing to submit to a gendarmerie check a year earlier. Sentenced to five months' suspended imprisonment and 500 euros in damages, he did not without surprise recognize the judgement.

Made famous by a video in which he refused to obey the gendarmes on the pretext that he "does not contract", Pierre Legrand appeared this Tuesday for offences and violence.

For supporters, close to the extreme right, the country does not exist as a public body but is a society governed by law created in 1947. The man, a 53-year-old former manager, had refused to stop at a police check because he was not willing 'to enter into any contract' with the State

Pierre L., a supporter of the conspiracy movement of sovereign citizens, intends to bring his case before the European Court of Human Rights.
