The USS Abraham Lincoln strike group arrived to enhance U.S. defense and deterrence amid Iran's crackdown on protests, with nearly 6,000 deaths reported by rights groups.
- On Jan 26, 2026, the Nimitz-class carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and several guided-missile destroyers arrived in the Middle East under U.S. Central Command, which said the group promotes regional security and stability after being redirected from the South China Sea more than a week earlier.
- After Iran's crackdown, Washington redirected ships from the Asia-Pacific region, with President Donald Trump warning last week that an "armada" was heading toward Iran.
