US: Initial Jobless Claims dropped to 219K last week

US citizens filing new applications for unemployment insurance ticked lower to 219K for the week ending March 29, as reported by the US Department of Labor (DOL) on Thursday. This print missed initial estimates and was lower than the previous week's revised tally of 225K (revised from 224K).

The government of Pedro Sánchez, once again, has taken heart with the recorded unemployment figures for the month of March. The absolute figures indicated a decrease in unemployment of 13,311 people, which puts the total number of unemployed at 2.5 million. However, behind this apparent improvement lies a stark reality in the Spanish labour market, especially for women and young people.
