Russian-Ukrainian journalist Vladyslav Yesypenko, who had been imprisoned by Russia for more than four years, was released this weekend on 21-22 June and has already left illegally occupied Crimea. The news of his release was welcomed by the Ukrainian government and press freedom associations.
He was convicted of espionage in 2022. During his captivity, Vladislav Yesipenko was subjected to electric shocks to force him to confess falsely.

Journalist Yesypenko Freed From Prison In Russia-Controlled Crimea
Vladyslav Yesypenko, a contributor to RFE/RL, has been released after more than four years in custody in Russian-occupied Crimea. He was jailed in March 2021 on charges of espionage and possessing explosives -- accusations that human rights group reject as fabricated. Yesypenko testified in court that he was tortured in custody and pressured into making a false confession.
