Ukraine to sue three EU countries over grain bans
- Ukraine has filed lawsuits against Slovakia, Poland, and Hungary at the World Trade Organization due to their bans on food imports from Ukraine, aimed at protecting domestic farmers from cheaper imports.
- Despite the European Commission's decision not to extend a ban on Ukraine's grain imports into certain countries, the governments of Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia have defied the Commission's move and announced their own national restrictions.
- In response to these bans, Ukraine is prepared to retaliate by imposing reciprocal measures on Poland, including prohibiting the import of fruit and vegetables, if the additional restrictions are not dropped. It has also expressed its intention to seek international arbitration over the restrictions.
