Ukraine's drone attack forces airport closures around Moscow, Russia says
- On Monday Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said Russian defence units downed 28 drones within five hours starting just before 10 p.m. on Oct. 26, forcing the closure of Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports at 2240 GMT.
- Kyiv has said it regularly uses long-range drones to strike oil refineries, weapons factories, and ammunition depots, aiming to destroy infrastructure key to Moscow's war.
- Explosions and a fire were reported in Moscow and nearby Serpukhov, Moscow Oblast, as emergency services were dispatched and Russian defence units reportedly shot down 34 Ukrainian drones.
- There was no immediate comment from Ukraine and the Kyiv Independent could not verify the reported strikes on Moscow amid mass attacks killing five people and injuring dozens in Kyiv.
- President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Oct. 26 that Russia attacked Ukraine with nearly 1,200 strike drones and 50 missiles in the past week, and Russia rarely discloses full damage.

Russia Says It Downed 193 Ukrainian Drones Overnight
Russia's defense ministry said Monday it had downed 193 Ukrainian drones overnight, with local authorities reporting that one person was killed in the attack. “Last night, air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 193 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry wrote on Telegram.
According to their own statements, the Russian army is defending a massive drone attack on Moscow. 193 Ukrainian drones are said to have been shot down, 40 of them near the capital. At the same time, Ukraine also reports air strikes in the east of the country.
