UK destination named among 'fastest-growing' travel spots for 2027 in new report
The report, based on 26,000 travellers, finds rising demand for short stays, nostalgic trips and screen-inspired travel.
Expedia unveiled its "Unpack 27" travel trends report, naming Chichester among the top global destinations for 2027, alongside South Lake Tahoe in California, Hyogo in Japan, and Punta Este in Uruguay.
Based on a survey of 26,000 travellers, the report identifies a shift towards intentional, personalised journeys. Expedia Group chief executive Ariane Gorin said, "Travel is about creating memories, and Unpack 27 uncovers the destinations and experiences shaping those moments."
Hotels identified a surge in "Trip Snacking," with nearly eight in 10 travellers planning one-night stays, while 65% expressed interest in "Gothic Getaways" featuring neo-Gothic architecture and castles.
Film and television continue to influence travel for nearly one in five people, while the report highlights the growing appeal of "Un-Adulting" getaways—child-free escapes packed with playful, nostalgic activities.
Younger generations drive these trends, with 83% planning one-night stays and 58% researching trips to film and television locations, suggesting this influence will persist well into 2027.
