UK Conservative leader pledges to abolish inheritance tax on family homes
The plan would cut bills for more than half of families and let couples pass on an extra £1 million tax-free.
On Wednesday, Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch closed the party conference in Birmingham, declaring the next election a "battle for the soul of this nation" and promising to turn the economy around.
Badenoch warned that the country is "running out of money," citing a national debt of nearly £3 trillion growing by more than £100 billion annually, with four in five pounds borrowed spent on interest alone.
The Tories unveiled tax cuts, scrapped the mansion tax on properties above £2 million, and pledged £10 billion over 10 years for the "Britannia Shield" missile defence system.
Taking aim at Prime Minister Andy Burnham, Badenoch accused Labour of believing "economic growth is created by politicians" and warned their policies create a "tax doom loop that is making us all poorer."
Emphasizing principles from a booklet published Sunday, Badenoch argued government should focus on defence and borders, asserting that "the collective wisdom of people in our country is greater than central planning.
