UK airline fails and cancels flights from airports immediately
Blue Islands halted all flights after Jersey government refused further financial aid; over 1,000 passengers and about 100 employees affected, with Aurigny and Loganair offering rescue flights.
- On November 14, Blue Islands, the Channel Islands-based airline, suspended trading and grounded all flights.
- The Government of Jersey said it could not provide more support after lending Blue Islands 7m, with officials noting there is a 'limit' on subsidies, as announced on Friday.
- The airline's five ATR-72 aircraft were grounded and bookings cancelled, stranding more than 1,000 passengers and affecting around 100 staff on routes including Bristol, Exeter and Southampton.
- Aurigny and Loganair have added extra flights and rescue fares, with Loganair starting replacement services from Sunday and Aurigny running some routes initially until Wednesday.
- This collapse follows another regional carrier's failure less than three weeks earlier, with Eastern Airways ceasing on 28 October; Carl Walker warned it creates a 'diabolical situation' for Channel Islands regional air connectivity.
