UEFA removes Azerbaijani club from Conference League for past match-fixing case
UEFA said the club failed an admission rule barring teams linked to match-fixing in the previous 10 years, and Turan Tovuz plans to appeal.
- On Wednesday, UEFA removed Azerbaijani club PFK Turan Tovuz from next season's Conference League, citing involvement in activities aimed at influencing match outcomes despite the team's third-place finish in Azerbaijan's domestic league.
- The disqualification stems from a 2019 AFFA Disciplinary Committee case where seven players were banned for match-fixing. Tournament entry rules require clubs to remain free of such involvement for the previous 10 years.
- Defending their qualification, Turan Tovuz asserted: "In the 2025-26 season, we finished the season in third place, following all sporting principles, and earned the right to play in the Conference League, which we are entitled to."
- The club vowed to pursue "all legal steps" and intends to appeal UEFA's decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to secure their participation.
- Despite the exclusion, Turan Tovuz confirmed: "There are no changes in our preparation plans for the Conference League," adding that team members will travel to Turkey this month for a training camp.
