NORTHERN VIETNAM, JUL 21 – Vietnam Airlines Group cancelled or rescheduled multiple flights on key northern routes to ensure safety ahead of Typhoon Wipha, which threatens flooding and travel disruption, officials said.
- On Tuesday, July 22, landfall of Typhoon Wipha is expected, affecting northern Vietnam including Ha Long Bay, Ha Noi, and Ninh Binh.
- Travelers to Vietnam were warned of travel disruption as the storm approaches tourist hotspots, according to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
- Vietnam Airlines cancelled flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong, VN1188, VN7188, VN7189, VN7056, VN7057, VN1186, and VN1187, to ensure safety; Pacific Airlines rescheduled BL6440 and BL6441 earlier and cancelled BL6520 and BL6521.
- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh placed provinces on emergency footing, and urged boats ashore, evacuations and securing supplies and communications.
- Wipha is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression over Laos by Wednesday, VN Express reported, as it approaches northern Vietnam’s coast.
