Russian Missile Strike in Ukraine's Capital Kills at Least 2
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people died in a fire as firefighters extinguished blazes and rescued two others after the strike.
On Wednesday, a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv killed two people, Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitschko said, after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned of "massive strikes" heading towards the capital.
Intensifying strikes on Kyiv in recent weeks as winter approaches have kept air raid sirens wailing nearly constantly, with military monitoring channels expecting a large-scale attack combining cruise and ballistic missiles with fast-moving drones.
Klitschko reported two deaths in a Darnytskyi neighbourhood fire with two rescued; fires also broke out in Podilskyi district. Beyond Kyiv, Russian drone attacks in Sumy Oblast killed two men and wounded scores including three children aged seven, 14 and 16.
Scheduled power cuts plunged parts of Kyiv into darkness to ease strain on the grid, while bank worker Iryna Rybalchenko told AFP "The whole of Kyiv is in a state of fear" and mother Daria Medvedeva said children were "absolutely terrified."
Russian attacks have systematically targeted energy infrastructure and transport networks including bridges across the Dnipro, with ballistic missile warnings issued for both Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia in the southeast, as Reuters documented the night-time offensive.
