Twins Start Luke Keaschall in Outfield for First Time in Major League Career
The move follows Keaschall’s -6 defensive runs saved and eight errors at second base as Minnesota seeks more lineup flexibility.
On Friday, Twins manager Derek Shelton started Luke Keaschall in right field, marking the first time the 23-year-old has played the position in nearly two years.
Defensive struggles at second base prompted the move, as Keaschall has committed eight errors and holds a-6 defensive runs saved rating, per Fielding Bible.
The Twins have been training Keaschall on outfield routes in recent days, and he stated: "Whatever it takes for us to win or you feel is best for us to win, then that's what I'll do."
Separately, the Twins pushed pitcher Connor Prielipp to Sunday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies to manage his workload following past arm injuries.
Mike Paredes will start Saturday against the Rockies, while Austin Voth has elected free agency and the Toronto Blue Jays DFA'd Simeon Woods Richardson on Friday.
