TTC Bus Driver Injured After Assault at Wilson Station
The driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as Toronto police arrested a suspect and charged them with assault with a weapon.
On Wednesday evening, a Toronto Transit Commission bus driver was assaulted with a weapon at Wilson Station in North York near Wilson Avenue and Bathurst Street, prompting police to respond at 6:29 p.m.
Investigators arrested the suspect at the scene moments later, and the individual now faces charges of assault with a weapon and assault, though police have not specified the weapon type.
Paramedics transported the employee to a hospital where the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries; Toronto Transit Commission CEO Mandeep Lali confirmed the driver is now recovering at home after a "violent assault."
Lali offered his support to the driver via social media, stating that violence against TTC employees is unacceptable; the TTC will continue working with police during the investigation.
While this investigation remains ongoing, agency data from February showed a decline in customer safety incidents following increased police presence in the TTC system during late January.
