FDA Commissioner Says TrumpRx Is a "Major Step" Toward Making Prescription Medications Affordable

- On Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced Pfizer agreed to join TrumpRx, a new direct-to-consumer government platform launching in early 2026 with discounts of 50%–85%.
- Earlier this year the White House issued a May 12, 2025 Executive Order and July 31, 2025 letters to manufacturers urging price parity using most-favored-nation pricing, and said State Medicaid programs can access MFN prices for savings.
- Pfizer provided examples such as Duavee's $203 monthly price dropping to $30, a 85% discount, and Xeljanz's cost reducing from $6,000 to about $3,600 for direct purchases.
- Markets responded as Pfizer's share price rose 7% in the US on Tuesday and jumped 85% on the UK’s stock exchange after the announcement.
- Stacie Dusetzina cautioned that `The reality of who can actually benefit by paying cash for these drugs through this website, it's probably going to be a smaller number of people than what is being promoted,` and experts warn uninsured and insured patients may still face affordability issues.
