Trump dismisses idea that Iran betrays his 'no new wars' campaign message
Trump said he never guaranteed no wars and defended the Iran conflict as necessary to prevent Tehran from getting a nuclear weapon.
In an interview airing Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press, President Donald Trump dismissed concerns that launching a war with Iran this year betrayed his campaign refrain of "No new wars," stating he "didn't guarantee" such outcomes.
Defending the conflict with Iran that began Feb. 28, Trump claimed he is "doing the world a service" by preventing nuclear proliferation, though he simultaneously noted U.S. strikes last year "obliterated" Iranian nuclear sites.
Trump also defended plans for a now-scrapped $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund despite Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announcing the Department of Justice abandoned the proposal Wednesday.
