Trezor warns users of email provider breach, phishing attacks
Trezor said the fake alert can bypass email protections because attackers used a compromised provider, and the company warned recipients not to share wallet backups.
- On Wednesday, Trezor reported that its third-party newsletter provider was breached, resulting in phishing emails sent to customers impersonating the hardware wallet maker.
- BitBox and CoinTracking confirmed similar breaches of the same newsletter provider, identified as Brevo, after receiving phishing attempts impersonating their services.
- The phishing emails resembled a spray-and-pray campaign rather than sophisticated targeting, urging recipients to share wallet backups. Trezor warned: "Do not click it or interact with it."
- This incident follows a separate logistics breach involving partner ShipMonk; Trezor confirmed on September 4 that the total number of affected customers rose to more than 80,000.
- The campaign coincides with broader industry concerns regarding random number generation after a Coldcard Mk3 firmware flaw earlier this year led to an attack on July 31 moving 594 BTC worth approximately $38 million.
