Vine claims first World Tour win since sickening 2024 crash
- Jay Vine, a 29-year-old Australian from Townsville, won the third stage of the Tour de Romandie on Thursday in Cossonay, Switzerland.
- Vine’s victory followed his recovery from a severe crash last year where he broke two vertebrae and feared he might never walk again.
- He powered away just after the one-kilometre-to-go marker in a 183.1km race, continuing Australia's recent string of cycling successes in Europe.
- Vine reflected on the challenging journey he faced after suffering a neck injury the previous year and described this win as his first WorldTour triumph in quite some time.
- Despite remaining sixth overall and 41 seconds behind leader Alex Baudin, Vine is not ruling out winning the race with two tough stages left.
