Kalyan Banerjee Refuses to Represent Abhishek, Seeks Mamata's Choice
Kalyan Banerjee says Abhishek Banerjee sidelined senior leaders in a forgery case and warned Mamata Banerjee must choose between them.
On Thursday, Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee announced he would no longer represent party leader Abhishek Banerjee in court, citing his "arrogant attitude" and a sudden change in legal counsel.
Kalyan, a Sreerampur MP since 2009, claimed he was not consulted before his removal from the signature forgery case, describing the late-night notice regarding the change in counsel as disrespectful.
Addressing reporters, Kalyan demanded that party chief Mamata Banerjee choose between him and Abhishek, stating, "Mamata Must Make A Choice," and warning the party "will not survive" if Abhishek remains.
These comments intensify internal divisions within the TMC, which is already grappling with recent resignations; 58 of 80 legislators have reportedly formed a separate assembly wing.
In the Lok Sabha, at least 20 of 28 MPs recently declared support for the ruling National Democratic Alliance, while the TMC undergoes a "comprehensive" review of its organizational structure.
