Axiom-4 Astronauts Return to Earth
INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION, JUL 14 – The Ax-4 crew conducted over 60 experiments on human health and space technology, returning with 580 pounds of research cargo aboard SpaceX Dragon spacecraft.
- Undocking from the ISS, the Axiom-4 crew, including Shubhanshu Shukla, is set to depart on July 14, with target undock date confirmed by Steve Stich, NASA Commercial Crew Program manager.
- Facing unfavourable splashdown weather, the Axiom-4 crew's return was delayed, and ISS systems required further monitoring.
- The returning SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft is expected to splash down near California on July 15 at 15:00 IST, carrying over 580 pounds of cargo and samples from more than 60 experiments.
- Post splashdown, Shukla's rehabilitation will last about seven days, ISRO said, and flight surgeons continue to monitor his physical and psychological condition.
- These investigations, according to ISRO, are expected to inform India’s Gaganyaan mission, space station, and interplanetary exploration, marking a historic milestone and the fourth private Axiom Space mission.
