Thousands gather at Motor City Pride festival in Detroit
- On June 7, the Motor City Bears hosted their seventeenth yearly vehicle washing event at the First Merchants Bank location in Ferndale to raise money for LGBTQ+ groups.
- The event grew from the Motor City Bears' ongoing commitment to raise funds for Affirmations and Ruth Ellis Center serving Southeast Michigan youth.
- Members of the bear community dressed in Speedo-style swimwear washed a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, bikes, and scooters, fostering a lively and engaging environment that attracted both participants and onlookers.
- Organizers announced they raised $1,696 this year, exceeding last year's amount of around $1,000. Wood commented that it’s uncommon to witness large, bearded men confidently sporting Speedo-style swimwear, which the community thoroughly enjoys.
- The fundraiser reinforces local support for LGBTQ+ youth and strengthens the car wash's role as a beloved community tradition in Ferndale.
