From the autumn of 1944, today's Győr-Moson-Sopron county became a prominent site of the Hungarian Holocaust. The remaining forced laborers were ordered here from all over the country, and tens of thousands were marched on foot from Budapest towards the German Empire, and many died. Even decades later, more and more mass graves were discovered.
