Pumping to protect the Prajdi salt mine will reduce the salinity of the Korond stream. The intervention aims to restore structural safety and protect the environment.
Researchers from the Institute of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Szeged, with the involvement of students, monitored the outflow of salt water coming from the Korond stream over the weekend on the Hungarian section of the Maros River and the Szeged section of the Tisza River.
Water is being continuously pumped in Praid, the salt content of the Korond stream is decreasing - They are preventing fresh water from coming into contact with salt.
The salinity of the Corund Stream is decreasing after authorities pumped out the water above the crumbling old section of the Praid salt mine and only released it back into the riverbed below the endangered area, the director of the Romanian water authority said.
