Spanish prosecutors to hear testimony of Julio Iglesias accusers, rights group says

Two young Latin American women will testify about sexual assault and alleged human trafficking against Julio Iglesias, with the case filed by Women's Link Worldwide.

  • On Wednesday, Women's Link Worldwide said two women who say they were sexually assaulted by Julio Iglesias will provide testimony to Spain's High Court prosecutor's office.
  • On January 5, the rights group lodged a complaint alleging human trafficking, forced labour, sexual abuse and workers' rights violations, with complainants described as young Latin American women, Jovana Rios said.
  • Iglesias has sold more than 300 million records in 14 languages, and attempts by Reuters to contact his representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday went unanswered while Sony declined to comment.
  • Spain's High Court prosecutor's office will take statements from protected witnesses with jurisdiction pending, noting criminal probes of Spanish citizens abroad are typically handled by the High Court.
  • Rios said `Being heard by prosecutors is a very important step in quest for justice`, adding other women who worked for Iglesias have contacted Women's Link, with one complainant citing the Dominican Republic.
