Stranded beluga whale lifted out of France's Seine river
Beluga whale stranded in the river Seine in northern France was removed from the water early Wednesday in the first stage of a rescue operation. The 800-kilogram (1,800 pounds) cetacean was lifted from the river by a net and crane at around 4:00 am (0200 GMT) and placed on a barge under the immediate care of a dozen veterinarians. The four-metre (13ft) whale was first spotted a week ago north-west of Paris. It is now trapped more than 100km (62 miles) inland and its health has deteriorated. About 80 people are involved in the operation, including divers, vets, and police officers.See the Story

The search spanned roughly 10 hours. The former president has called the search unprecedented and politically motivated. Experts on national security law have cautioned that the FBI would not have undertaken such a high-stakes move without firm belief that a possible criminal violation was at issue.See the Story
