INDONESIA, JUL 21 – The trade deal sets a final 19% tariff on Indonesian imports, securing at least $50 billion in U.S. market access and increased purchases, officials said.
- On Tuesday, the United States government confirmed a 19% tariff on Indonesian imports, under a framework described as an `Agreement on Reciprocal Trade`.
- With looming deadlines, President Donald Trump threatened high duties on foreign trade partners ahead of an Aug. 1 deadline.
- Under the deal, Indonesia pledged $15 billion in U.S. energy, $4.5 billion in agricultural goods, and 50 Boeing jets; it also accepted U.S. Food and Drug Administration certificates and supported a moratorium on data duties.
- U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said `unprecedented access to Indonesia's market and greater certainty for the digital services sector`, and he added `I thank Indonesian Minister Airlangga Hartarto for his dedication`.
- In the coming weeks, the U.S. and Indonesia will negotiate and finalize the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, and may identify commodities for further tariff cuts.
